Samuel Booth| Sporting award

Congratulations to Samuel Booth, recipient of our 2024 Sporting Excellence award!

Samuel is currently in his second year at the University of Essex, studying BSC Sport and Exercise Science. He achieved a first in his first year of university, making the Dean’s list for academic achievement. He is a part of the University’s high-performance programme (HPP) for athletes, representing the football first team. The HPP programme has given him access to brilliant facilities and also benefitted him academically, allowing a deeper understanding of how the principles of sport and exercise science are applied in a sporting environment.

Samuel played football for Eastleigh FC’s academy from the age of 13 to 16, and then joined local side AFC Stoneham, who compete in the Wessex league. He captained the under-18s side and made his debut for the men’s reserve team when he was just 16. Recently, he has received offers from step 5 and 6 semi-professional sides, outside of the university, to represent them at the weekends. This would give him a chance to compete in the football pyramid in competitions such as the FA Cup and the FA Vase.

Samuel’s award of £1,000 will enable him to cover travel costs to matches, as well as assisting him with university living costs. Hopefully, this will help him to pursue his passion for football alongside his academic studies, in order to fully realise his ambitions.

We wish Samuel every success in his chosen degree and sport and we are confident that he has a very bright future ahead of him.
