Talia Marshall | Individual Funding
In 2018, I received funding from NABHET towards my midwifery elective at the Fernandez hospital in Hyderabad, India. I took part in a new training programme aiming to reduce infant deaths.
My time at Fernandez hospital was very enlightening and interesting. It is a privately run venture but I also went to see a government run maternity unit. The difference was striking, with women being lucky to even get a clean sheet in the latter. Midwifery is not a recognised profession in India yet so it was amazing to be at the start of this training programme. I would love to return in the future, maybe even to train some of the student midwives. I am now a fully qualified midwife, working at the Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in London.
