Jasmine Pimm | Individual Funding
We granted Jasmine an amount of money to go towards her volunteering trip to Kenya to work with the Oceans Alive Trust.
During her five-week stay, Jasmine focused on marine conservation and helped out with the local community. She assisted in rebuilding coral reefs, surveying and charting species living within the lagoon, planting mangroves, teaching the community about vertical gardening and recycling household waste, cleaning up beaches, teaching children, building kitchens, and much more!
The Oceans Alive Trust set up Kenya’s first locally managed marine area in response to rapidly declining fish stocks in the Kuruwitu Lagoon, and provided all-round community support to find alternative livelihoods, thus decreasing their reliance on fishing.
Jasmine enjoyed this life-changing experience and was grateful for the opportunity to learn about the culture, while also developing a passion and motivation to do more for conservation, responsible tourism, and environmental education.
