Netley Abbey and Butlocks Heath Educational Trust kindly awarded me a grant towards the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023.
A series of unfortunate occurrences led to the UK Contingent moving us away from the jamboree site early. Although it was disappointing, we still had an amazing time. It is definitely a story to tell!
The trip helped me to develop my leadership, planning and communication skills, and definitely taught me a lot about how resilient I can be! The Korean people were all so kind and welcoming, and it was great to engage in the local culture. We saw some amazing places, including the demilitarised zone, multiple eye-opening museums about Korean history and the Korean war, some beautiful palaces and stunning scenery. We even tried Korean traditional dress and saw the whole city from Seoul tower. We also got the opportunity to see the Korean WAGGS centre. The best part of the trip was meeting new people both at the jamboree site and in Seoul, and I managed to swap a lot of badges which is always great!
I am so grateful to the Trust for their support in helping me to get to South Korea and I would encourage others to apply. I have been left with memories to last a lifetime as you can see from my photos.
