Chloe Smith| Academic award

Congratulations to Chloe Smith, recipient of our 2024 Academic Excellence award!

Chloe is about to start her BA (HONS) degree in Design for Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. She chose this university due to its exceptional industry connections, use of industry-standard equipment in the metal and wood workshop, and assistance in developing an individual’s professional portfolio. As a design student, one of Chloe’s dreams is to share her passion for theatre, reaching large numbers of people and spreading joy through her designs. Her choice of course reflects this dream, providing her with great opportunities through their incredible industry links to the BBC, Badwolf Studios, The Royal Opera House and The National Theatre. Chloe aspires to work as a set designer for The Royal Shakespeare Company or The National Theatre, as they share her values of accessible theatre, passion, and imaginative storytelling.

Chloé has achieved A grades at Itchen College in English literature, Film Studies and Textiles, as well as an A in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ ). She has worked at The King’s Theatre in Portsmouth as a theatre technician, gaining experience in radio communications, lighting design on a lighting design board and practise with set changes. She also won a place on the BBC Get In scheme, exploring BBC Radio Solent and completing a tour of the BBC Solent TV Studio.

Chloe’s award of £1,000 will help her with the costs of university life such as materials, software, and safety equipment and we wish her every success in her chosen degree and career. We are positive that she also has a very promising future ahead of her.
